Description: This training explores the versatile use of puppets in child, adolescent, and family therapy. Designed for all experience levels, this 1.5 hour session covers theoretical foundations, various puppet types, and practice applications throughout the entire therapeutic process, from assessment to termination. Participants will engage in a hands-on sock puppet-creation activity to bridge empathy and practice. You will leave with the clinical knowledge to integrate puppets into your work and a puppet of your own.

Objectives:

  • Explain the theoretical rationale for using puppets in play therapy, including: The Power of Projection and Symbolic Communication

  • Identify and differentiate multiple types of puppets used in play therapy

  • Hands-on creative: Create your own sock puppet to experience the client’s expressive process firsthand

  • Describe a variety of ways puppets can be integrated across the play therapy process
