Steven McFarlin, MS, LPC
Steven earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor with experience supporting individuals through a wide range of personal, emotional, and life challenges. His professional background includes work in college counseling, student support, crisis response, and leadership within student success initiatives. Through these roles, Steven has worked with diverse populations navigating anxiety, depression, grief, identity development, life transitions, relationship concerns, academic stress, and barriers connected to belonging, confidence, and personal growth.
Steven believes counseling is most effective when clients feel seen, respected, and supported without judgment. His approach is grounded in person-centered counseling, which emphasizes empathy, authenticity, acceptance, and the development of a strong therapeutic relationship. He also incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when appropriate, while recognizing that each client brings unique needs, experiences, and goals into the counseling process. Steven works collaboratively with clients to identify the therapeutic approach that feels most useful and meaningful for them.
As a counselor, Steven’s style is warm, collaborative, practical, and affirming. He works to create a counseling environment where clients can explore difficult experiences, better understand themselves, and develop tools for moving forward. Steven believes people are not defined by their struggles, and that healing often begins when individuals are given space to understand themselves with honesty, compassion, and support. He is especially passionate about supporting individuals through periods of transition, self-discovery, identity exploration, stress, and emotional overwhelm. He is also committed to providing affirming care for LGBTQ+ clients and others who may have felt misunderstood, overlooked, or unsupported in other spaces.
Outside of counseling, Steven enjoys creative expression, reflective writing, gaming, exploring spirituality and personal meaning, and spending time with interests that allow him to recharge and stay connected to himself. He brings the same curiosity, warmth, and respect for growth into his counseling work that he values in his own life.
